Piggy's magic

*Knock knock*

Rhodochrosite looked up to the sound of someone knocking at the door of her room. “Come in!” she answered. The door opened and behind it stood a highland cow whiffling dressed in a short green dress and hair in two long braids. “Agnieszka! What brings you here?” Rhodochrosite asked her little keychain friend.

Agnieszka held up her arm holding a little package, “You’ve got mail! What’d you order?” she handed the package to Rhodochrosite and sat down on the fluffy carpet next to her. Rhodochrosite’s pet, Piggy, oinked happily and climbed on Agnieszka’s lap, silently asking for pats and cuddles, to which Agnieszka happily obliged.

“It’s just a few gems that BB promised to send me!”

“Well, what are you waiting for, open it!” Agnieszka nudged her best friend impatiently.

And so Rhodochrosite started to carefully open the package and rolled its contents onto the soft carpet. Out came 3 bundles wrapped in bubble wrap and Rhodochrosite started unwrapping the first one. It was a white stone with little gray veins that Agnieszka couldn’t recognise.
“What’s this one called?” She didn’t know much about gems and crystals, but she loved listening to Rhodochrosite talk about them.

Rhodochrosite held the stone up and explained while observing it. “It’s a Howlite! It's mostly known for helping others slow down and have a sense of patience.”

“Maybe we should give the stone to Tornado!” Agnieszka laughed, thinking of their friend who seemed to never run out of energy. “Then again, he would probably end up breaking the precious stone..”

The second gem Rhodochrosite unwrapped was a beautiful polished stone that seemed greyish-green. Agnieszka looked a bit disappointed by this one’s blank uninteresting colour, until Rhodochrosite turned it around and in a brief moment, Agnieszka thought she saw it shine brightly. “Wait! Turn it back a bit!” she exclaimed. Rhodochrosite smiled knowingly and tried to find the correct angle. Agnieszka stared in awe at the beautiful colours reflected on the stone’s surface - they were bright green and blue, with hints of orange and yellow, something Agnieszka has never seen before. “Wow.. it’s beautiful.” is all she managed to whisper.

“This stone is called Labradorite. It was believed that polar lights were trapped or captured in this stone, making it reflect so nicely.” Rhodochrosite explained.
Agnieszka nodded, “That certainly does remind me of the arctic exhibition that we had in the museum a while ago. I bet Aurora would love to observe this stone!” she paused for a bit, lost in thought. “I’m not going to be the one to talk to them though! They are always so quiet, I always feel like I’m being judged..”

“Oh come on, if you bothered to get to know them, you wouldn’t feel this way.” Rhodochrosite scolded her friend. She began to unwrap the last gemstone, excitement showing in her eyes and the hooves on her feet thumping a little bit against the fluffy soft carpet.
Agnieszka gasped. What Rhodochrosite unwrapped fell onto the carpet in two large pieces and a cloud of dust. “Oh no! It’s shattered!” Rhodochrosite cried. The precious stone was pink with gray and white stripes and circles, just like Rhodochrosite herself. “Oh, my precious rhodochrosite stone! The delivery person must have been super rough to have damaged it, even wrapped in bubble foil.” Rhodochrosite looked like she was going to cry and Agnieszka understood why - the last gemstone was Rhodochrosite’s own scent focus and naturally her favourite and most valued stone. And now it was destroyed, beyond repair as small chips of the stone kept falling out of the foil. It would be possible to glue the two big pieces together, but a lot would be missing and there would be a clearly visible crack. The stone was simply destroyed forever.

“Hey, come here..” Agnieszka put Piggy down from her lap and hugged her best friend. Rhodochrosite trembled, naturally she felt very close to all rhodochrosite stones and felt pain for those damaged, especially damaged by recklessness. Agnieszka stroked her back and hair, hoping to calm her down at least a little bit. She would feel the same way if someone had shipped her a brand new keychain and it arrived cracked or bent or otherwise damaged. She’d be just as heartbroken as Rhodochrosite.

“Oink oink!” Piggy demanded attention. Rhodochrosite tried to shush it, telling it now’s not time to play, but Piggy persisted and so Rhodochrosite sat back down next to Agnieszka and looked at Piggy with a question in her eyes, something like ‘Yes Piggy? What is it you would like?’

Piggy nuzzled its owner and then looked at the destroyed stone. It started sniffing the broken pieces and then closed its eyes. Agnieszka wasn’t sure what exactly was happening, when suddenly the two broken pieces started to levitate a bit and slowly drifted towards each other, with the gemstone dust floating around it. In a big explosion of light, Piggy squeaked excitedly and Agnieszka gasped in wonder as before them lay the rhodochrosite stone, but completely smooth with no visible crack or chipped pieces. Piggy circled around itself a few times, lay down and immediately fell asleep.

Rhodochrosite jumped in happiness, “Piggy has gained magic! And oh, what wonderful magic it has gained. It can repair cracked rhodochrosites!” She picked Piggy up and spun it around, hugging it. “Thank you thank you thank you!” She gave it a few kisses and put it down again.”

She gently picked all three gemstones up and placed them on her shelf of gemstones. All gemstones in perfect shape with no cracks, thanks to Piggy’s newfound magic.
