Definition:
Airglow (also called nightglow and twilightglow) is a faint emission of light by a planetary atmosphere especially during the night. Airglow occurs when atoms and molecules in the upper atmosphere, excited by sunlight, emit light in various colors to shed their excess energy, also known as chemiluminescence. Airglow can be spotted in any direction that is free of light pollution, usually at about 10⁰-20⁰ above the horizon.
