Level 6 - abstract
Word: Anime (Mahō Shōjo)

Origin:
Japanese [magical + girl], roughly. 魔法少女.
Anime: C. 1985, Japanese for "animation," a word that seems to have arisen in Japan in the 1970s, apparently based on French animé "animated, lively, roused," from the same Latin source as English animate (adj.). Probably taken into Japanese from a phrase such as dessin animé "cartoon," literally "animated design," with the adjective abstracted or mistaken, due to its position, as a noun.

Definition:
Mahou Shoujo (魔法少女) [Paralogos entry here in Hepburn romanization as Mahō Shōjo] is a Japanese term that translates into Magical Girl. This term is usually used as a sub-genres or categorical term of anime and manga. This type of anime and manga revolves around at least one female character whom you can assume uses magic. There are alternate romanji spellings (as shown).
There are some commonly held tropes about these types of series (transformation spells into 'heroine' forms and similar, cute animal companions) that are at times in the genre turned on their heads.
Anime is a style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children.
